Conformity Assessment of Pressure Equipment

The Pressure Equipment Directive PED 2014/68/EU applies to pressure equipment and its components. Its purpose is to ensure that the pressure equipment meets safety and health requirements when used in the EU market.

Manufacturers of pressure equipment must manufacture products in accordance with the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive to affix the CE mark and place it on the market. Conformity assessment of pressure equipment is required.

Finspection Oy offers inspection services in the following conformity assessment procedures:

• A2 
• B
• F 
• G

Module A2

Module A2, Internal Production Control plus supervised pressure equipment checks at random.

Applicable up to category II of Directive 2014/68/EU, Article 14.

In this module, the Manufacturer is required to perform the final inspection of the pressure equipment. Finspection Oy monitors the Manufacturer’s activities by conducting unannounced inspections at the Manufacturer’s premises. These random inspections ensure the quality of the Manufacturer’s internal inspections and compliance with the Pressure Equipment Directive. The Manufacturer issues a declaration of conformity and affixes the CE mark on each pressure equipment produced. Pressure equipment is also marked with Finspection Oy’s notified body identification number 2986.

Module B, EU Type Examination

Module B design type and production type are applicable to categories III-IV of the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU (design type max category III) but, can also be used for inspections of lower categories I-II.

In this module, the Manufacturer obtains type approval for their equipment, either as a design type or a production type. Finspection Oy assesses the technical documentation, which includes, among other things, a description of the pressure equipment, design and manufacturing drawings, and a risk analysis. The documentation is reviewed to ensure that the design meets the essential safety requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive. In the production type, Finspection Oy also inspects a sample of the pressure equipment that represents the intended production.

After a successful assessment, Finspection Oy issues an EU Type Examination Certificate – either for the design type or the production type, which is valid for 10 years. This certificate serves as the basis for assessments conducted during the production phase.

A pressure equipment cannot be manufactured with Module B alone. Module B is typically used in combination with another modules, such as Module F, in which case Finspection Oy verifies that the pressure equipment complies with the EU Type Examination Certificate and conducts necessary inspections. Based on the approved inspections, Finspection Oy issues a certificate of conformity for the pressure equipment. The manufacturer then prepares the declaration of conformity and applies the CE marking to each manufactured pressure equipment. If Finspection Oy has performed the final assessment, the pressure equipment will also be marked with the notified body identification number 2986.

The assessment according to Module B + F complies with the requirements for product certification.

Module F

Module F, Type conformity based on pressure equipment verification

Applicable to category IV of Directive 2014/68/EU, but can also be used for inspections of lower categories I-III.

Finspection Oy verifies that the pressure equipment complies with the EU type examination certificate and conducts other appropriate inspections. Based on the approved inspections, Finspection Oy issues a declaration of conformity for the pressure equipment. The Manufacturer issues a declaration of conformity and affixes the CE mark on each pressure equipment produced. Pressure equipment is also marked with Finspection Oy’s notified body identification number 2986.

Module G

Module G, Conformity based on unit verification

Applicable to category IV of Directive 2014/68/EU, but can also be used for inspections of lower categories I-III.
